Aaron Humphrey, founder & president of Alpenglow Lighting Design, Inc, is nationally recognized as an expert in lighting design, daylighting, lighting controls, and energy-efficient designs, and was a member of the first ‘class’ of designers to be Lighting Certified by the National Council for Qualification of the Lighting Profession in 1997. A consultant and designer since 1996, Aaron has worked on large scale commercial projects, including the Nike World Headquarters and the Brewery Blocks in Oregon, custom residences in western ski resorts, and has been instrumental in crafting dark-sky ordinances for municipalities. An award-winning designer, he has extensive experience in LEED-certified designs, local and national codes, and has taught classes in lighting and daylighting design.
Aaron’s expertise in lighting design and lighting controls spans decades. He studied theatrical design in college, then worked as International Project Manager and Lighting Fixtures Product Manager for Colortran, one of the largest theatrical dimming manufacturers, from 1992-96. During that time, he managed hundreds of international diming system designs, from systems engineering to shipping and factory startup. As product manager, he maintained the existing product line and worked with product desigers to develop new lighting fixtures.
In 1996, he moved to Portland, Oregon and worked as the sole lighting designer for Glumac International, a large mechanical/electrical/plumbing engineering company. At the time, Glumac had 5 offices, nearly 300 employees, and one lighting designer. Projects spanned from large corporate and college campuses to high rise towers, and even correctional facilities.
Since 1992, Aaron has seen the evolution of lighting from halogen, ceramic metal halide, and compact fluorescent to LED. He has designed in every major controls system, including Vantage, ETC, Colortran, Crestron, AMX, Lutron, Wattstopper, Hubbell, Greengate, LiteTouch, AMX, Strand, EDI, Gray, and more.
